Working with Subcontractors
I started my career working as a Quantity Surveyor for Donald Cant Watts Corke in my work experience year and then for Westbay Consulting Services following graduation. I then worked for builders Multiplex, Mirvac and Westfields as a Contracts Administrator, managing Tenders and subcontractors' variations and claims.
It was during working for these builders that I noticed a lot of companies, especially subcontractors that I managed, are very poor at submitting their invoices correctly so that they will get paid on time. I also noticed that they are too busy completing works to meet the usual tight construction programme. Invoicing is usually left at the bottom of the list of things to do. They naturally tend to focus on doing their jobs and what they are good at, not so much on claiming correctly and timely so they can be paid for their hard works.
Working with Consultants
Moving into the Project Management world and working for APP for 8 years, I no longer manage invoices for subcontractors. Instead, I managed invoices for consultants. You would think consultants would be better at “paperworks” than subcontractors but they have the same struggles – too busy doing their job to focus on submitting claims and following up on claims to get paid for their works.
These observations have made me realise that there is a need for a dedicated consultant to look after subcontractors and consultants' invoices and cashflows. Someone who understands the construction industry well and who has dealt with a lot of claims.

I have spent more than 20 years in the construction industry, mostly managing “paperworks” for various different types of projects and working for various sides of the coin. I understand how construction contracts work and how to submit claims so that they will be paid on time to keep your cashflow flowing positively.
